Biohydrometallurgy for Cobalt Recovery from Spent Li-ion Batteries using Acidophilic Bacteria Isolated from Acid Mine Drainage

Nowadays, recycling Li-ion batteries is an important thing to do minimize the risk of exposure this hazardous solid waste. On other hand, extracting these materials can optimize economic potential valuable minerals in active cathode. Bioleaching was developed as environmentally friendly method extract cobalt from cathode by utilizing metabolic activity A. ferrooxidants cells. Microorganisms were isolated Acid Mine Drainage a 9K liquid medium at pH=2.5 and used inoculum. The process carried out with various cell concentrations 5, 10, 20 %v/v. A positive response shown monitoring microorganism through changes physical appearance, decreasing pH value, increasing Fe3+ concentration. structural analysis XRD SEM has effect Co dissolution before after bioleaching. Optimum recovery achieved up 57.81% 14 days incubation.
